VocalArt Singers

We are an auditioned chorus of about 15 men and women from West Michigan who sing classical choral music from the Renaissance to today. Some of us are professional musicians, but many of us have more informal training. All of us volunteer because we want quality and variety in our music-making. We are an equal-opportunity, non-sectarian organization that performs in a variety of locations.

VocalArt Singers is an ensemble of singers who seek continuing growth and improvement in their voices, musical skills, and artistry. Singers are expected to be able to read music. Classes in musical reading skills are available to singers who need improvement in this area.

Our niche in the musical life of West Michigan is to acquaint ourselves and our listeners with standard choral works and worthy music that is new, under-performed or rarely performed. In particular, our repertoire has included music by Latin American and Scandinavian composers. We help to provide West Michigan with a greater variety of musical performances and innovative programming. In addition, our streamlined focus and schedule allow participation by people who cannot commit to other choruses with more extensive concert seasons, but who want a quality experience.

We engage professional instrumentalists for our concerts. They are frequently members of our local and regional professional symphony orchestras.

Our vocal soloists come from both within the choir and the finest professional singers in our area. One of our goals is to provide local soloists with the opportunity to sing challenging music.

We are an independent, non-profit organization, funded by individuals, foundations, art agencies, businesses and churches who contribute money, goods, services and time. Businesses buy ads in our concert programs too.
