Voices needed: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass Contact our director, Suzanne Tiemstra, anytime, to arrange for an audition : 616-575-SING We rehearse Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 7th St NW at Oakhurst in Grand Rapids. You are welcome to sit in on a rehearsal before you audition. What to expect at an audition: You will be asked to bring two pieces of music to sing: one piece in English, and one in another language. The music can be as simple as a hymn or folk song, or it can be more advanced (art songs, or arias from the operatic and oratorio repertoires). You will also be asked to repeat some rhythmic patterns and some pitch sequences, and to sight-read some music. Finally, you will be asked to take a "test" to determine your level of skill at music reading. The audition will last about 20 minutes. Rehearsals for the Fall 2008 season begin October 8 and end November 22. We will have concerts November 22 and 23. Our members pay season dues of $55. These dues help to cover our expenses, including music, salaries, rentals for concert venues, performance royalites, and other administrative expenses. There is also a one-time $15 music deposit, which is refundable on request upon leaving the choir (provided all music is returned). |
