Pekka Kostianen

Pekka KostianenPekka Kostiainen studied at the Sibelius Academy, gaining his composition diploma as a student of Jouko Tolonen in 1973. He has been lecturer in music at the University of Jyväskylä since 1971. In 1977 he founded the Musica choir at the University and has been its leader ever since. He has also been leader of the Vox Aurea children’s choir since 1994. He is a Doctor hc of the Jyväskylä University (2004).

His compositions include works for the stage, orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, choruses, solo voices. Most of them were commissioned by symphony orchestras, opera companies, universities, cities, choruses (including Tapiola and Musica), television networks, music societies, and festivals.

His publishers include published by SULOSOL Warner-Chappelle Finland, Yhteiskustannus, Assoc. of Finnish Female Choirs, Associ. of Finnish Music Schools, Edition Reimers, Fennica Gehrman, Finnish Assoc. for Church Music, Modus Music, Otava Publishing Company, Sirkat Male Choir, and STM Music.
